SFADSUM
version 1.0
SFADSUM ver. 1.0
SFFILES.BBS Enhancement Utility From THC SOFTWARE
Copyright 1992 By Timothy Willsey & Gary Meleski
All Rights Reserved
Purpose:
This program was created in response to SFHEADER, which is an
SF utility that assists in making file headers with
information concerning how many files and bytes are in that
area. SFHEADER, while an excellent program, has some
disadvantages, particularly in the fact that it is NOT
compatible with SFFILES. That is a serious problem, as we
cannot get along without this wonderful utility from Bob
Zimmerman. Also, is the fact that it cannot be executed
without operator intervention unless registered. That
precludes it's use as a system event. Also the header
generated is somewhat unsightly to begin with. Oh, and one
more thing, it has to be executed from the SF directory,
whereas I access the SFPATH environmental string so that you
don't have to clutter up the SF directory. The inclusion of
the name of your BBS is not possible with SFHEADER until it
is registered.
Usage:
The program can be run from any directory on your hard drive
that is in the path. However, SFPATH must be set to where
your main SF files are (in particular, SFFAREA.DAT). If
SFPATH is not set, SFADSUM will look in the directory that it
is executed from. The program was designed to work with
Spitfire ver. 3.1. I believe that it will be compatible with
3.2, however, you may want to backup your SFFILES.BBS(s)
first before trying it with SF v. 3.2 as a safety measure.
SFADSUM is best run as an event so that it will be accurate
on a daily (or weekly) basis. After an opening screen, each
file area will be displayed, with total number of files &
bytes, as they are processed. After all file areas are
completed, a summary report is printed to the screen.
Extensive error trapping has been engineered into the
program so that your SFFILES.BBS(s) are safe from corruption.
Also, each time SFADSUM is executed, a SFFILES.BAK is written
to each file area directory. You can use a utility such as
NOBAK to delete them if you wish. When processing, only
files listed in SFFILES.BBS will be added to the totals.
